An exciting opportunity to be part of Perth’s sustainable energy future is on offer with LandCorp’s world-first Cool Earth Demonstration Project homes on sale now through an offers invited process.

Offers are being accepted from $600,000 and close at 2pm WST Wednesday 27 April 2016.

Positioned side-by-side in the highly successful The Vive at Craigie development, the Cool Earth homes are similar in size and layout, except one features a new geoexchange technology while the other features a traditional air conditioning system.

LandCorp CEO Frank Marra said the study was the first of its kind to test open loop ground source heating against a standard air conditioner and had the potential to change how Perth homeowners heat and cool their homes in future.

“This technology is revolutionary in Perth,” Mr Marra said.

“It operates similar to a reverse cycle air conditioning unit except the geoexchange system transfers heat to and from the earth. It uses the relatively stable year round temperature of  groundwater and the earth as a heat sink, to remove heat, and as a heat source, to provide heat.

“The two year study will monitor the effectiveness of the geoexchange system in Perth’s climate. At the end of the study the results will be published allowing industry and homeowners to consider the potential of the geoexchange system when looking at sustainable and energy efficient heating and cooling options.”

The trial is being conducted as part of LandCorp’s Innovation through Demonstration program to assess how cost and energy savings could be made by using new and innovative technologies.

LandCorp is working together with several partners to bring this project to fruition, including the ABN Group, Carbonomics, The University of Western Australia and GeoExchange Australia.

Mr Marra encouraged potential buyers and those interested in  innovative technology to attend an Open Day at The Vive on Saturday 9 April where project staff and project partners would be on hand from 10am to 2pm to discuss the study and answer questions about the trial.

The four bedroom, two bathroom and double garage Cool Earth homes have been built to a full turnkey specification by Celebration Homes, close to the beach and surrounded by schools, shops and parks on the former Craigie High School site.

Both the homes also feature gas boosted solar Hot Water and 2 Kilowatt rooftop solar PV systems.

The Vive is also home to a Supported Independent Living facility, specifically designed to support and accommodate younger adults living with disabilities.

Cool Earth is another example of LandCorp’s Innovation through Demonstration projects, which aim to champion change and ground-breaking technologies.
